Compound Miter on Seat Tube rather than Downtube.

BikeCAD Pro How To Forum

Hello

I am wondering if any version of BikeCAD has the ability to move the compound miter from the down tube to the seat tube. The reason I ask this is because I have been speaking with the bicycle framebuilders I currently know, and one of them recommended I miter the seat tube to make room for the bottom bracket and downtube rather than miter the down tube for the seattube and bottom bracket. According to this framebuilder, who has brazed together several frames, mitering the seat tube instead of the downtube allows any structural load on the downtube to be focussed on the thicker bottom bracket shell rather than on the thinner seat tube walls. I would appreciate further feedback from other framebuilders on whether this logic has merit, and if it is, if BikeCAD supports the ability to change which tube the compound miter is applied to.

Mitering seat tube to down tube

This is an option in BikeCAD. See: bikecad.ca/seattube_mitered_to_downtube for an explanation.
